After a nice nights sleep in the van at the Wildrose campground we took a morning ride up Telescope Peak. The climb is almost to 10k feet and there was still snow which stopped us just a half mile from reaching the summit. The views were stunning and the air was refreshing. A nice change of pace from 100+ degree heat.
The lower half of Wildrose Road was closed but the gates were open. I remember riding it years ago when it was completely shut and the gates were locked. Taking this section of road would save us almost 2 hours of driving so we rode it on the bike to see how passable it was. It looks as though the locals have been keeping it passable for a while. There were no sections that would be too hard for a After some lunch and relaxing we got in the van and headed for Lake Isabella.
